It's a Summer Guitar Camp
For devoted classical guitarists!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Douglas Niedt's Summer Guitar Course

Q. Three hours of private classical guitar lessons every day sounds wonderful but
taxing. Will I survive it?
A. I promise not to wear you out! My teaching style is very calm and I am very patient--it is not a
scary nerve-racking experience! I have always looked at guitar lessons as nothing more than
supervised practice sessions--they are NOT performances. I am teaching you how to practice.
You will enjoy it very much and you will accomplish a lot. You will be amazed how fast three
hours goes.

Q.
What is a typical classical guitar student like who takes your class?
A. We have teenagers, college students (usually guitar majors), retired people, university
guitar professors, businessmen, housewives, and concert artists. Quite a wide range!
However, all have a burning desire to learn and improve their classical guitar playing.

Q.
How advanced do you have to be to take this Summer Guitar Course?
A. If you can play basic etudes by Sor, Giuliani, Carcassi or the Milan Pavanes or easy pieces by
John Dowland, you will really enjoy and benefit from the Summer Guitar Course.

Q.
Is some kind of audition required to qualify for the Summer Guitar Course?
A. No audition is required. I will talk to you on the phone to find out what you are looking for in your
guitar lessons, your past history, what level you are presently at, etc. Weeks are reserved on a
first-call first-served basis.

Q.
Are there other things to do while I visit other than the guitar lessons and practice?
A. The Conservatory is located just minutes from the Country Club Plaza, the cultural (and
shopping!) nerve center of Kansas City. It is a very nice area with many upscale restaurants,
shops, and hotels. It is a very pleasant getaway destination for a couple.

Q.
What hotels are nearby?
A. I can recommend hotels/motels to you depending on your budget and what type of
accomodations you like.

Q.
What is the weather like in Kansas City during the summer?
A. In May and June it is usually very pleasant with highs in the 80's and lows in the 60's to 70's. In
July and August it heats up with the highs in the 90's to low 100's and the lows in the 70's to
80's. And, it is very humid in July and August. All the more reason to stay inside and practice!
